Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley

The Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley is a professional theological school faithful to the intellectual tradition and apostolic priority of the Society of Jesus which is the reverent and critical service of the faith that does justice. The Jesuit School is one of nine theological seminaries in the consortium of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. Our students not only benefit from excellent Jesuit training, but can also take advantage of courses offered at the other schools, including the University of California at Berkeley. In addition to the the ecclesiastical degrees (the Bachelor, Licentiate and Doctor of Sacred Theology), students are able to study for the Master of Divinity (MDIV), the Master of Theological Studies (MTS), and in conjunction with the GTU, the Common Master of Arts (MA).

JSTB offers several full-tuition Presidential Scholarships for incoming Master of Divinity degree students. Additionally, JSTB awards up to one-half tuition scholarships for all other degree programs.  Visit www.jstb.edu for more information. Northwest Center for Catholic Graduate Theory

The Northwest Center for Catholic Graduate Theory, a joint enterprise of Gonzaga University and the University of Portland is currently offering a Master of Arts Degree (MAPM) in Pastoral Ministry for those looking to further explore the workings of God. The MAPM program provides pastoral ministers with sound theological foundations, basic ministerial skills, and resources for ministry and personal spirituality. This 40-hour program can be completed in three years by taking attending weekend classes.

Institute of religious Education and Pastoral Ministry


The Boston College Institute of religious Education and Pastoral Ministry continues to be a resource for JVC/JVI alumni/ae who are looking for a way to continue to live out the values and convictions that found expression in their JVC/JVI experience. The IREPM’s educational vision is working to respond to the contemporary needs of today’s church and society with the creation of various joint degrees to meet the needs of students. The graduate programs offer a joint Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry/ Master of Social work degree (M.A./ M.S.W.); a joint Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry/ Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (M.A./ M.A.); a Master in Religious Education with concentrations in high school teaching and Total Community Catech(M. Ed.), and a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry (M.A.), and a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry (M.A.) with concentration in Pastoral Care and Counseling, Social Justice/ Social Ministry, Youth Ministry, Hispanic ministry, Liturgy and Worship, Religious Education, Church Leadership, and Spirituality. MEd in Religious Education

 

Apply by March 15 to be considered for fellowships in the new degree program - an MEd in Religious Education with a concentration in Total Community Catechesis (TCC) - sponsored by Boston College and The Henry Luce Foundation This concentration within IREPM's Master of Education (MEd) in Religious Education is an ideal preparation for leadership in parish and family catechesis.

Significant fellowships will be offered to eligible students who demonstrate leadership potential in religious education and parish catechesis.

Hispanic Ministry Programs

 

The MA in Pastoral Ministry with a concentration in Hispanic Ministry provides students with an exploration of Hispanic theologies, spiritualities and religious communities, involving a supervised ministry requirement in a Hispanic/Latino/a or multicultural context. This concentration is especially designed for pastoral leaders (Hispanic or otherwise) who wish to prepare themselves to minister in an increasingly multicultural context.

Community Development and Planning Program

 

The Community Development and Planning program provides current and future community development practitioners, activists, and scholars with a strong foundation—based on theory, skill development, and practice—to take on the challenges of urban revitalization in the United States.  The program links theory to practice through insightful participation of practitioners in seminars, high quality internships, and studio and practicum courses that allow students to learn directly from residents and community-based organizations about their resources, priorities, and strategies.  Students in the Community Development and Planning Program learn alternative ways of thinking and transforming communities to achieve greater equity and social justice.

Comboni Lay Mission Program
Pastoral Teams


Comboni Lay Mission Program is a Catholic community of lay people who live out their faith and ideals by walking with the poor of other countries, sharing talents, learning from one another, and joining the struggle for a more just and compassionate world.

Missioners attend a discernment weekend in the Spring, and a 14-week training program in the Fall. Upon completion, they attend language school and begin a 3-year assignment in Africa or Latin America. They share their talents in health care, education, agronomy, community development, administration, technical skills, and pastoral work. They live together in community and participate in pastoral teams of Comboni priests, religious and local leaders.

Echoing Green Fellowship
Visionaries Wanted

The Echoing Green Fellowship offers entrepreneurs up to $90,000 in seed funding to support and launch a new organization. Teach for America, City Year, and over 400 other social change organizations have begun through an Echoing Green Fellowship. Arrupe Fellowship

The MA in International Political Economy and Development (IPED) is a 12-course (3-semester) program designed to train students for international professional careers. These careers often require an advanced interdisciplinary knowledge of international economic relations for employment in government, business, or non-profit organizations. Our curriculum offers a rigorous foundation in political, economic, social, and quantitative analysis and an advanced interdisciplinary study of global economic issues. The program also offers a number of specializations. Arrupe Fellows are expected to specialize in development studies with a focus on project management.

The term Magis is a key element of Jesuit Spirituality, inviting us to do more and to become more in the hope of offering greater service.

Any former Jesuit Volunteer may apply for this service program. Offered by Loyola University Chicago, JVC: Magis is for dedicated people seeking meaning in their life who want to:

· serve people in the inner city;

· explore a deeper spirituality;

· earn a Master's Degree in one of the following areas: social work, pastoral studies, divinity, social justice, spirituality, secondary education. (Dual degree programs are not offered through JVC Magis.) This is offered as a full scholarship opportunity for all participating volunteers;

Loyola Law Community Service Scholarship

Students who have participated in Americorps, City Year, Peace Corps, VISTA, Teach for America or Jesuit Volunteer Corps are eligible to receive $4,000 for the first year at the School of Law at Loyola University of Chicago. No application is required. Please submit a cover letter with proof of participation and completion of the program. The deadline is March 1st. Students who are chosen to receive the Teach for America Americorps Education Award from the Child and Family Law Center are no eligible of this scholarship.

Trinity Fellows Program


Jesuit Volunteers and alumni are invited to apply for graduate study in the Marquette University Trinity Fellows Program, a twenty-one month study/work
program offering Master's degrees in: Business, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Communication, Economics, Educational Policy and Leadership, English, History, International Affairs, Applied Philosophy, Political Science, Public Service, or Theology.

The Trinity Fellows Program of Marquette University is intended for committed individuals who care about the well-being of others, about issues of social justice, and who wish to acquire experience in the urban non-profit sector while studying for two years toward a Master's degree. Each fellowship includes a full-tuition scholarship and a monthly stipend ($1565 per month).  Each student is charged a participation fee of $1250 per semester.  Up to ten fellowship awards will be distributed for the period of August 2009 -May 2011.  To be eligible, applicants must have completed service in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Lutheran Volunteer Corps, Peace Corps, Americorps, or other comparable full-time volunteer program.

Our application deadlines for the Fall 2009-Spring 2011 term are December 31, 2008 (History fellowships) or February 2, 2009 (all other fellowships).

Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries

The Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries offers Master’s of Arts degrees in Spirituality, Liturgical Music, Pastoral Liturgy, and Catechetics.  Through academic study, ministerial development, a strong spiritual foundation, and a community atmosphere, the program prepares women and men to serve their faith communities.

A degree can be completed in two years full-time or five years part-time, either during the academic year or over five summers.  All former Jesuit Volunteers (JVC and JVI) are eligible for 25% tuition remission.  Additional generous scholarships are available based on need.

Remick Fellowship


The Remick Fellowship program responds to the need in American Catholic education for skilled teachers who are also soundly educated and mentored in ethical leadership skills.

Candidates for Remick Fellowships must meet requirements for the SMU Master of Arts in Instruction program, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their undergraduate program, be members of the Catholic Church, and have demonstrated leadership skills. Application deadline is March 15.

The one-year Remick Fellowship program provides an opportunity for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree in a variety of fields to acquire teacher licensure in grades 5-12. Fellows will also earn a Master of Arts in Instruction degree. Those holding degrees in theology will receive the master’s degree but are not certified by the state.

Campus Ministry/Religious Studies


The University of Dayton offers full tuition, housing, and monthly stipend, health insurance provided to those pursuing a Masters of Theology and Masters in Pastoral Ministry.   Graduate students gain practical campus ministry experience while pursuing a Master of Theological Studies or Pastoral Ministry. GA's engage in 20 hours/week serving undergraduate students in the Center for Social Concern, Retreats and Faith Development, and Residence Life Ministry. Master of Science in Administration Program


The newly re-designed Master of Science in Administration program addresses the new issues in the nonprofit sector, including philanthropy, the impact of information technology, the call for administrative effectiveness and accountability, the responsibility for revenue generation, and the interface between the profit and nonprofit arenas.

The MSA Program places its curricular and scheduling focus on people who work full-time in community-based and national nonprofit agencies that lack a desired or required business background. The students have four years in which to complete the 42 credit hours from year of acceptance. Gates Public Service Law Scholarship Program

The Gates Public Service Law Scholarship Program awards five scholarships on an annual basis to first year students entering the UW School of Law J.D. program.  Each Gates PSL scholarship award covers tuition, books, costs of room and board and summer stipends to support public service law work.  Acceptance of a Gates PSL scholarship represents a commitment on the part of each Scholar to work in public service for five years following graduation.
