Job Title: AmeriCorps Administrative Assistant

JESUIT VOLUNTEER CORPS (JVC) NORTHWEST, Portland, OR, is hiring a part-time, 20 hours/week AmeriCorps Administrative Assistant (AmeriCorps Admin) to begin as early as July, 2010. The AmeriCorps Admin will assist the AmeriCorps Coordinator with duties related to the smooth administration of the JVC Northwest AmeriCorps program of 135 members, living in 21 communities in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. The AmeriCorps Admin will assist in the development of AmeriCorps materials, assist in preparing training materials for service sites, help with the enrollment of incoming AmeriCorps members, relate with national and state AmeriCorps entities, perform on-going administrative duties with members, assist with maintaining members’ health insurance policies, and perform general office duties as required.
JVC Northwest is seeking a person with a commitment to the mission and values of JVC Northwest and AmeriCorps; excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills; ability to meet the public in a friendly and open way and to communicate effectively with diverse peoples; demonstrated ability to work with many details; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, access is a plus; ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment, flexible, and able to adapt to changing circumstances; and willingness to participate in staff community. Maryknoll Lay Missioners (MKLM) is seeking a Recruitment Manager to be a part of a team dedicated to recruiting,
admitting and preparing women and men to serve as overseas lay missionaries. MKLM is a Catholic organization
inspired by the mission of Jesus to live and work with poor communities in Africa, Asia and the Americas,
responding to basic needs and helping to create a more just and compassionate world. Our missions are focused
on the areas of education, health, justice and peace, pastoral care and sustainable development. We have sent
over 500 people overseas since 1974 and currently we have over 60 women and men, single and married, with
and without children, each serving the poor for a minimum of 3 ½ years and many serving for over 10 years. Our
annual recruitment goal is a diverse class of 15 or more missioners.
Location: Ossining, New York.
Principal duties:
Reporting to the Director of the Mission Services Department, the Recruitment Manager has the responsibility to:
1. Coordinate & conduct recruitment work, including:
a) Design and implement an annual recruitment strategic plan and budget;
b) Encourage qualified individuals to submit full applications through personal, phone and e-mail followup;
c) Enter, retrieve and create data inquiries relevant to recruitment, and track status of inquiries through the
organization’s database;
d) Prioritize and maintain contacts with MKLM alumni, Maryknoll partners, diocesan offices, social justice
organizations, universities, organizations of culturally diverse constituencies, selected parishes and others;
e) Create and update recruitment materials, in collaboration with Director of Communications and
Marketing;
f) Plan and implement informational sessions, discernment opportunities and other recruitment events both
in Ossining and in other U.S. locations;
g) Network with other missionary and volunteer organizations for the purpose of expanding recruitment
outreach and making referrals;
h) Collaborate with other Maryknoll entities in joint recruitment activities;
i) Represent MKLM at public events;
j) Promote diversity efforts of the organization, particularly in the context of recruitment of new missioners;
k) Motivate and assist others to promote the vocation of missionary work with MKLM.
2. Work closely with the Director of Communications & Marketing to develop strategic communication pieces for
the purpose of recruitment.
3. Coordinate with Managers of Alumni & US Church Relations to engage alumni in recruitment efforts and to
capitalize on church talks as further opportunities for recruitment;
4. Assist the Admissions Manager during high admissions season in reviewing applications, conducting
interviews, and assessing applicants’ suitability for MKLM;
5. Assist the Programs Manager in the implementation of programs for missioners, including our Orientation,
Mission Integration, Recommitment /Renewal and Summer Overseas Volunteer Training.
